About event
After years spent with her aunt, young Emma Watson returns to her family and quickly becomes the center of society. Although she has many suitors, she remains a careful and slightly ironic observer of the world around her.
Into her life enters the mysterious Laura - a modern woman of the 21st century, who easily communicates with literary characters and helps them (and us) to look at their destinies from a new angle.
Jane Austen, the iconic British writer, speaks to us through her novels, film adaptations and theater productions regardless of changing fashion trends.
Behind the elegant atmosphere of balls, gardens and salon conversations, however, are hidden topics that are surprisingly current: issues of female self-awareness, personal freedom and the search for happiness outside of pragmatic or romantically convenient marriages.
The contemporary British playwright Laura Wade decided to take up the unfinished novel The Watsons and not only adapt it, but also creatively add to it.
The result is an intelligent, playful and extremely successful theater play directed by Marián Amsler, which will be presented in a preview on January 30, 2026.
