About event
📣 1st meeting: Let the woman speak in the church 📣
"The involvement of women is not a concession or adaptation to passing cultural trends, but a response to a deep evangelical need. (...) We are therefore called to recognize that the "women question" is a sign of the times in the sense that the Holy Spirit also speaks through it."
(Final Report of the 5th Group of the Synod of Bishops on Synodality)
We cordially invite you to the first of a series of synodal meetings, where we create a space for reflection on women's experience of faith, which is often neglected in the church. Through a joint reading of a selected text and a subsequent synodal discussion, we reflect on the role and experience of women in the church today and throughout history. The meeting is prepared by a group of women from the Prague Academic parish in cooperation with the parish. to think, share and listen to each other in a respectful environment.
What will we read?
At the first meeting we will read the text The Secret of God and the Mystery of Man (2022), an ecumenical theologian and parish priest of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. In the text, the author offers insight into the development of global and Czech feminist theology. She consciously tries to avoid extreme positions that either demonize feminist theology In the first part, she focuses on two key problems of feminist theology, the androcentric interpretation of church institutions. She shows how feminist theology has dealt with them and how these issues have developed, as well as the problems that feminist theology has not been able to deal with satisfactorily Republic. It again presents the authors and topics, but also shows the sociopolitical factors that were the reason for frequent negative reactions to feminist criticism and the fact that even those who dealt with feminist theology did not want to identify with feminist theology.
