About event
The City Auditor is one of only two officials in Portland elected citywide. Independent from the City Council, the Mayor, and the City’s leadership team, the Auditor’s Office exists to serve the public interest. Having an elected Auditor meets the highest independence standard for audit organizations, allowing the Office to work objectively and without undue influence.
Many Portlanders may not know that the Auditor’s Office is responsible for administering City elections and enforcing Campaign Finance and Lobbying Regulations, similar to the role of Oregon’s Secretary of State. The Office also oversees the Portland Archives & Records Center, which preserves the City’s history and creates exhibits that celebrate our community, such as the current LGBTQIA2S+ History exhibit and an upcoming special event on the Black community’s historic musical culture.
Join City Club for a conversation with Portland City Auditor Simone Rede, moderated by Alex Zielinski, OPB Portland City Politics Reporter, to learn more about these vital but often lesser-known functions, the Office’s role in ensuring open and accountable government, and how its independence strengthens transparency in City Hall.
