About event
From July 9th to 12th, 2026, the Gendarmenmarkt in the heart of Berlin will once again be the stage for an unforgettable music experience: The Classic Open Air invites you to unforgettable concert moments in a romantic summer flair. The renowned cultural festival transforms the historical setting into a place for musical enjoyment and fascination with four brilliant concert evenings.
The Classic Open Air will be ceremoniously opened on July 9, 2026 by the Konzerthausorchester Berlin based at Gendarmenmarkt under the direction of chief conductor Joana Mallwitz.
The opening concert on July 9, 2026 again with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin under the direction of chief conductor and exceptional artist Joana Mallwitz is a musical journey from the heart of Berlin to two other metropolises of the 1920s with George Gershwin's "An American in Paris" to Paris and with the world-famous "Rhapsody in Blue" for piano and orchestra to New York. The outstanding Japanese pianist Hayato Sumino, who in 2025 became the first artist to be awarded the Opus in two categories in the same year, is impressive on the piano. Kurt Weill's Symphony No. 2 is also on the program for the premiere evening.
