"As designers, we are very interested in leaving a certain ambiguity in our architecture and looking for unprogrammed spaces
that people can adopt themselves."
Belgian studio Raamwerk is one of the most interesting phenomena of contemporary European architecture.
Gijs De Cock and Freek Dendooven based their approach on an exceptional ability to work with scale, material and context, turning even modest tasks into cultivated and layered architectural stories.
Raamwerk became famous for a fine balance between rationality and poetics – their houses and public buildings appear pragmatic and sensitive, rational in organization, but emotionally in the atmosphere. Despite the characteristic architectural moderation, their projects never appear dull or cold; on the contrary, in their simplicity they often reveal the harsh beauty of construction, craftsmanship or light. The ability to read the environment, follow its rhythm, proportions and memory is typical for them. In this way, a sustainable architecture is created that goes beyond the present and looks forward. They are not looking for dazzling effectiveness, but long-lasting values and a cultivated expression. Their work combines precise composition with social, cultural and environmental empathy.
RAAMWERK became the laureate of the prestigious award for young architects "Rookie of the year" thanks to the Atelierwoning project.
For its projects, it received other awards and nominations in the Wienerberger Brick Award 2016 and the Belgian architecture award 2015.
They are currently nominated for the EU Mies Awards 2026 for the Duinhelm project / masterplan and housing for people with disabilities /.
