What hides the mountains: Aşît + Earth Drama

19.00, Transit.sk Exhibitions of Prague Ecology: Between the transformation and links
The event takes place in English. The film Aşît (avalanche) takes place in the mountain area in the south of the province of Van, on the border of Turkey with Iran, while the earthly drama (Tellurian Drama) unfolds in the Malabar Mountains in West Java, Indonesia. In both cases, the imperial powers with violent colonial occupation displaced the population and disrupted the communities. Films are at the forefront of the topological characteristics of the mountains and, through them, consider the political and ecological importance of these landscape units as geographies that determine not only the fate of the people who live there, but are also places of emancipating imagination. Mountains such as confluence of human and more-non-human ontologies are revealed as a dwelling of ancestors and spiritual entities, thus becoming a place where material encounters mythical. The screening program highlights personal stories and controversial history stored in the geological layers of mountains exceeding the steep slopes of history, ecology and time. The Hornat East of Turkey, follows the history of Armenian genocide and the Turkish war against the Kurds through a country shaped by forced displacement, environmental violence and military occupation. Referring to the novel by Stefan Zweig Schachnovelle (chess novel), this film puts memory, literature and unfortunately into the poetic essay about loss, migration and cultural extermination. Radio Malabar's posthumous life, broadcasting station from the colonial era in West Java. The film combines archival research and speculative fiction, examining the mountains as a historical actor, colonial ruins such as techno-political infrastructure and cosmology of the original population as persistent opposite. The film reveals how the country absorbs contradictory history, where mechanical rhythms rewrite those heavenly, and in the ruins there is an echo of unrealized future. Her architecture background is reflected in her films and installations that collect traces of material culture associated with forced displacement. Öğrence deals with the place, location and architecture as the materialization of violence. Her artistic practice is the answer to the collective past, which is often silent, and encourages her audience to imagine a future based on justice, equality and collective healing. By searching in local archives, it initiates the collaborative memory process and engages the community in questions about what is remembered and deletes or overlooked. Her works were exhibited at the Biennal in Venice, Harvard Museum, Documenta Fifteen, Gwangju Biennial and in many other institutions. His artistic practice focuses mainly on the relationship between science, technology, work and nature, worldviews, genre film and the possibility of theoretical fiction. His works could be seen at various film festivals (including Berlinale, Locarno, Iffr, etc.) as well as at Moma, Whitney Biennial, Taipei Biennial, Istanbul Bienial, Biennal of Architecture in Venice and other places and institutions. Recent solo exhibitions and themed screenings of his films were held, among others, in Gasworks London (2024), ICA London (2024), Z33 Hasselt (2024), Center de la Photographia Genève (2023) and Batalha Centro de Cinema Porto (2023)
