Opening hours: Thursday - Saturday: 15:00 - 19:00
Evže Sobek (*1967) belongs to the generation of photographers to which the task was accompanied by a domestic society that came at the turn of the century. Perhaps that is why his photos behind pictorial harmony almost always hide a certain amount of astonishment and criticality that leads the viewer to think about the world in which he lives.
There are several strong ensembles in the Sobek portfolio, in which it responds to the paradoxes and absurdity of the social atmosphere of Czechoslovakia of the second half of the twentieth century and what happened in new conditions. This is a kind of free reflection on the essence of our national identity, which is often very ruthless.
A set of photos he created during his recent journey on American Texas is relatively close to his method and way of seeing these considerations. Sobek is not any naive admirer of foreign countries who are headlessly carried away by their exotic spells. Given the chosen topic, he is more of an anthropologist who sees the environment in which he moves through his typical rituals and symbols, or perhaps only through their residues that speak to us with tongues that better understand their eyes than ears. @fogbratislava

They are a kind of free reflecting on the essence of our national identity, which is QUITE OFTEN MERCIEND. Reflections. SOBEK IS NO MEANS A NAIV Admirer of Foreign Lands Who Alows Himself to Be Carried Away by Their Exotic Charm.
