About event
Comfort IS… - Culinary Workshops About Comfort Food 🍝
We invite you to a series of culinary workshops to guide us by our resident, Polish artist, Jagoda Dobeck, who has long been involved in food and memory relationship. During the two workshops, which will be interconnected, we will go on a trip to the past with our taste buds, remind our comfortable meals and finally move to the “kitchen” together where we prepare dinner together. Umami taste - both are the main flavors found in human breast milk. Scientists assume that our reactions to fragrances (including the smells of food) are almost completely learned and depend on memory, although some of these reactions appear very soon. Finally, memory plays a central role in explaining almost all aspects of our dietary behavior and preferences. Much of the literature dealing with diet - especially the one outside the anthropology - is based on the idea of sentimentality to the past and considers food to be a kind of box in which we put our memories of childhood and family. However, nostalgia can be understood differently. Not like experiencing the emotional past, but as a desire for times and places that one has not actually experienced. For example, nostalgic memories of the so -called. Comfort food may not always be based on a truly happy childhood; Instead, they can serve to create a fictitious story of such survival. Using sensory memory, we will discuss the meals that bring us joy and sense of security. As comfort is a key theme of the project, the experience of working in the kitchen and cooperation will offer the opportunity to think about the effort we have spent on achieving it. We will symbolically end the cooking workshop with a common meal.
