About event
Hildegard Knef would have been 100 years old in December. The Hamburg comic artist Moritz Stetter has traced her life as a graphic novel and is presenting the work in the Pablo Neruda District Central Library.
About the book:
Singer, actress, writer – Hildegard Knef was one of the most dazzling personalities of the 20th century. From Berlin to Hollywood, she was always at the center of show business and an early citizen of the world. She defied convention and continually reinvented herself. From growing up under National Socialism to becoming a young film star at the UFA, scandals in post-war Germany to her successes on Broadway and as a chanson singer – her life was a constant ups and downs between fame and personal suffering.
Moritz Stetter draws the multifaceted portrait of an extraordinary artist who became immortal with “For me it should rain red roses”.
Moritz Stetter, 1983 born, grew up as a working-class child in the Black Forest. After training in graphic design and animation, he became self-employed in 2008 as an illustrator and author of graphic novels as well as a portrait illustrator, illustrator and workshop leader and has lived in Hamburg ever since. His work focuses on biographical and historical material, reflections on our time and the visual communication of complex topics. He adapted, among other things, Franz Kafka's “The Judgment”, presented comic biographies about Beethoven, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Martin Luther and published the comic essay “We are only afraid of the unknown” (2019, Jaja Verlag) about his trip to India as part of the Goethe-Institut. He is also co-initiator and curator of the comic project “How are you?”, a drawn dialogue against anti-Semitism, racism and hatred (2025, avant verlag).
