About event

Blending Ghanaian and West African music with collaborative upcycling and textile craft

Kantamanto Social Club proudly presents a community upcycling fashion and music experience at The Kanta To The World Upcycled Fashion Experience at Amsterdam Fashion Week 2025. Curated by Knits & Notes & Rafael Kouto, this unique session blends Ghanaian and West African music with collaborative upcycling and textile craft 🪩🪡. We’ll transform discarded garments into expressive new creations through crocheting, knitting, and hands-on making.

This is not just an upcycling workshop, it’s a communal jam. Come ready to craft, connect, and groove to vibrant sounds as we co-create one-of-a-kind outfits that celebrate sustainability, storytelling, and culture.

  • All skill levels welcome
  • Live DJ set featuring West African beats
  • Materials provided, but feel free to bring your own old clothes or textiles to transform!
  • Feel free to also bring your own crocheting & knitting projects

About Knits and Notes

Stichting Knits and Notes is a nonprofit platform that connects crafting with different mediums of art, like music, film and storytelling.

It explores the relationship between textile crafts and other art forms, and creates an open space for crafters of all kinds to meet and make. The main focus lies on community, craftsmanship, and cross-disciplinary art — with music as a central thread running through many of the events.

About Rafael Kuoto

Rafael Kouto is an upcycling and community couture brand established in 2017. The brand is characterized by a distinctive, visionary and hybrid aesthetic merging the West African and Swiss culture. The brand cultivates an uncompromised approach to sustainability as it exclusively uses the technique of pre- and post- consumer upcycling, sustainable fabrics to create new clothes and accessories.

Capacity is limited, so RSVPs are encouraged, but everyone is welcome! Walk-ins will be admitted as space allows.
