Concerto de Páscoa | Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa

João Domingos Bomtempo's Requiem Mass is a monument of our history. Soberly structured, it fits the movement that just over 200 years ago defended the social reform of the country. The liberal revolution was then guessed that overthrew monarchical absolutism and opened doors to the constitutional regime. The dedication to the memory of Luís Vaz de Camões reflects the claim to recover this ideal of nation. Already in 1936, in the litanials to the Black Virgin, Francis Poulenc also resorted to sacred music to give expression of political confrontation, but in France, between the conservative rural traditions and the structural reforms of the Popular Front.
