This text, of a few pages, is one of humanity's mystical jewels. Enumerating with brief maxims the virtues and works that allow one to rise to a divine condition. These are the “golden steps”, that is, of sunlight or spiritual light that allow Discipleship, with capital letters, and the ascension to God. In Egypt, they called it the Ladder of Horus.
In 1885, Mabel Collins, in her own words, wrote it at the dictation of a mysterious and wise character. But theosophical authors like Jinarajadasa say that it is a lost (and later recovered) work of Neoplatonism and this is also a copy of a much, much older text.
Fernando Pessoa translated it into Portuguese and never separated from this book. Professor Jorge Ángel Livraga and Delia Steinberg made surprising comments for their disciples, and so did Annie Besant, Leadbeater, Jinarajadasa, Sri Ram, Judge and many others inspired by their wisdom, of this work, which is in a certain way the sister of « The Voice of the Silence».
And we all easily recognize that the ideal of a life must be supported by maxims such as: “Kill ambition but work like the ambitious”, “Desire only what is in you”, “Desire only what is beyond your reach”, “In you is the Light of the World”, “Seek the Warrior and let him fight within you”, “Listen to the song of life and keep in your memory the melody you hear”, etc. .
