Shop II Conversation with Jaime Lebre
Meeting/Visual Arts Exhibition
By Bombarda/Largo Residencies Store
March 13 (Qui.), 6:30 pm, Bombarda Art Lodge
Gardens of Bombard Bombarda brings together, on display and on sale, a set of works and objects produced by the artists resident here. “Shop conversation” translates into a cycle of conversations in order to bring these works closer to the visitors, inviting a resident artist in each session, to present and talk about his work, and the audience to come to know her. In the second conversation we invited the resident artist Jaime Lebre to, regarding the temporary exhibition “Which one has the longest neck?” Talking to us of his vast path and work.
Jaime Lebre, Lisboeta, graduated in painting by the then Esbal, today Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. He was a drawing teacher, a profession of which he retired, but never stopped drawing. At 69, he follows "Alive and Kicking at the Country Club".
Methodical and organized, plan your works with almost surgical accuracy. Its preparation notebooks, where each idea gains shape before materializing, are more than simple sketches - they are an autonomous body of work, a work within the work, where the construction of visual thinking is revealed in layers, notes and graphic essays.
Despite the rigor in the process, the end result is always rich in freedom. The meticulous structure that precedes each work does not impose boundaries on creation, but rather it serves as a trampoline for a diverse, instinctive and deeply visual work. In Jaime's work, to look is to discover, inquire, to go unexpected ways, and to find, in the midst of the thought stroke, glimpse of a world full of world and stories to tell.
The Bombarda Jardins is a cultural and community center promoted by Largo Residencies, in partnership with Estamo and a set of resident socio-cultural organizations. This activity is funded by the Lisbon City Council (Bip -Zip) and the Portuguese Republic - Culture / General Directorate of Arts.
