Coppélia com Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa :: CNB 2024/2025

Coppelia explores the ending border between the real and the illusory and the human fascination with authematic dolls, closely linked to interest in technological and scientific advancement in the nineteenth century. Hoffmann, Coppélia or the nail polish girl is a ballet where illusion and fantasy mix with humor. Debuted on the Impérian Théâtre de L'Opéra in Paris on May 25, 1870, the story focuses on the young Swanilda and his fiancé Franz. Swanilda is jealous when he realizes that Franz is delighted by a beautiful girl who often appears at the window of the mysterious doll manufacturer, Dr. Coppelius, unaware of that it is actually a mechanized doll: Coppélia. Franz and Swanilda are dragged to a series of misunderstandings and caricatured adventures, getting, even on the eve of their marriage, to escape the confrontation with Dr. Coppelius for invading his studio.
