The Scottish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall, aka corto.alto, makes music on his own terms: sounds that not only speak of his time in Glasgow's emerging and creative music scene, but also of an eclectic range of influences. They draw equally from his passion for club culture and electronic music as well as his love for classic hip-hop, soul and funk.
He has written a remarkable success story in recent years: his debut album Bad With Names was shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Prize (2024), won the award for “Best Album” at the Scottish Jazz Awards and was voted “Band of the Year” at the Jazz FM Awards (2025) - an audience vote in which Ezra Collective and Nubya Garcia were the other nominees. He was also nominated in the Independent Breakthrough category at the AIM Awards 2025.
Recently signed to the legendary label Ninja Tune, he has once again demonstrated his flair for seamlessly combining various styles with his single DON'T LISTEN. The track received huge radio support and was part of BBC 6 Music's A playlist for four weeks.
Over the past 18 months the band have played over 120 concerts, including the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury Festival, headlining the main stage at We Out Here, Latitude, North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Cross The Tracks and a sell-out UK tour which included a performance to 2,000 people culminated in his hometown at the legendary Barrowland Ballroom.
