"Cuprum Civitas": The luster and misery of the copper city
"Cuprum Civitas" is an exhibition focused on the phenomenon of mammon, wealth and sources that have historically been associated with the city of Banská Bystrica and its iconic border, a source that once lifted the city to its heyday. The main theme of the exhibition is money and values symbolized by gold coins, copper as a precious metal and wealth, which flows not only into historical awareness, but also into the contemporary aesthetics of public spaces.
The authors of the exhibition, Matúš Maťátko and Filip Sabol, in their works, they deal with the motifs of luxury and power, but also with street scenes that reflect everyday city life in contrast with symbols of wealth. The paintings and mural, created right in the gallery, are inspired by this dualism of the city, where the luster of the copper past meets the current challenges of urban life. At the same time, the exhibition reflects the ideas of how history meets modernity and how wealth and resources shape urban identity.
This gallery space thus comes to life not only as a reminder of glorious times, but also as a symbolic reflection of the wealth and challenges of the urban environment, which continue to influence the local community and a wider audience.
The gallery's exhibition program was supported by the Art Support Fund from public sources. Thank you.
