About event

Cyril Kaplan

Cyril Kaplan is a singing drummer and producer. He works in the bands Insert a cat, Mutants find a way out or Xadrex, whose common denominator is that they move on the border of genres. In their music you can find dance floor and rock club, drum and base and post-rock. Cyril's solo work adds two more positions to the whole package: pop playfulness on the one hand and instrumental rawness on the other. His debut This Is What Dancefl00r I5 4 last year deconstructed several iconic hits associated with the cradle of early disco, New York's Studio 54, and brought their vibe into the 1920s. His latest record, This Is My Space, heads into other waters. The only instrument on the record is the drum set. While on the debut a complex sonic world arose and disappeared, on the current title the sonic palette is reduced to a minimum, one instrument that does not vary in tone. For the summer concerts, Kaplan has prepared a set that will describe both mentioned positions: the austerity and directness of the solo drum kit will gradually transform into the power of the dance set. In addition to solo work, the concerts will also feature several Xadrex or mother's compositions Insert a cat.

TOO HOT TO HÄNDEL

Innovative concert performance of married duo KaplanSyntehtic called TOO HOT TO HÄNDEL and subtitled electrobaroque! premiered in 2025. For the first time, the project presents the vocal and instrumental compositions of Georg Friedrich Händel, an important composer of the High Baroque, performed electronically. Soprano, bandleader and music researcher Viktorie Kaplanová has been engaged in baroque music and its historically informed interpretation throughout her life (Victoria Ensemble association). The accompaniment is created and produced by Kryštof Kaplan, who is both a prominent contemporary Czech sculptor and visual artist, but at the same time an original personality in the field of electronic music (the award-winning band Vložet kočku). The sounds of synthesizers and samplers here open up completely new interpretation possibilities and at the same time allow the basic principles of baroque music to be preserved. In this way, the events in the text can be emphasized or the whole range of emotions amplified. The importance of the bass line, on which the entire musical expression of the Baroque era rests, is also preserved. The arias are interspersed with uniquely processed instrumental pieces, which creates a complete surface, offering a revealing and world-unique musical dialogue between the high Baroque and the present. The project breaks down the boundaries between genres and, with respect and joy, offers a view of Handel's music as club entertainment, of which it was also a parallel in its time.
