About event
In Slovakia, we have almost 1,500 known watercourse dams, most of which are completely impassable for aquatic organisms. Other barriers are forgotten or in poor technical condition and do not fulfill their purpose. Such buildings should be mapped and gradually removed. This is also mentioned in the Nature Restoration Law, the aim of which is, among other things, the restoration of 25 thousand km of free-flowing rivers in Europe.
More about how barriers affect rivers and how we can help with their mapping and removal, but you will definitely be able to do many other interesting things on 08.12.2025 (Monday) at 18:00 in Find out about Juraj Fándly's library in Trnava from Martina Paulíková from WWF Slovakia.
Free entry!
Ing. Martina Paulíková - studied nature and landscape protection in Zvolen. During her studies, she was involved as a volunteer in the Slatinka Association, which aims to protect the environment and promote alternatives to the controversial dam planned in the naturally valuable Slatina river valley. For these activities, she received the White Crow 2022 award. She currently works for WWF Slovakia, where she leads a program for the protection of flowing waters in Slovakia. The subject of her interest is public participation in environmental decision-making, protection and sustainable use of water, as well as protection of the residential environment.
