DAN CROLL – FOOLS
On his latest album FOOLS is written Dan Croll at a crossroads. Five years after leaving his beloved Liverpool for sunny LA, a move that transformed his musical expression to such an extent, Dan asks the fundamental question – is it time to return home?
The opulent FOOLS, Dan's fourth album, is the follow-up to 2020's Grand Plan, a critically acclaimed success that encapsulated his early experiences in LA and slowly replaced his earlier synth-pop with sepia-toned folk rock with Laurel Canyon tendencies. FOOLS jumps forward in time, through Covid, to the end of an intense three-year relationship, the death of Dan's grandmother back in the UK, and rare trips home as restrictions were lifted.
Sonically, the album spans wider – country, disco and soaring psychedelics join Carole King and James Taylor nods on Grand Plan. Both albums were mainly recorded live at the legendary Spacebomb Studios in Richmond, Virginia, with Matthew E. White (Natalie Prass, Flo Morrissey, Slow Club) and his four-piece house orchestra. This time the album was co-produced by Dan, where he played with the sound late into the night to add his own touch to the record.
