About event

A literary and musical evening directed by Miloš Sládek.

Daniel Defoe is far from being forgotten, after all, almost all of us read his Robinson in our youth and dreamed of distant lands. In June, we will try to get you in the mood for trips to distant regions. However, we will also recall the lesser-known Defoe's Diary of the Plague, a prose report from London set in the time of the plague epidemic, and we will discover that during epidemics, people still behave very similarly in many respects.

The cycle of evenings, of which this is the tenth and last, continues the programs from Czech baroque literature that we presented at the Museum of Literature during the last season. He wants to point out the similarities and above all the differences between Czech and European early modern literature. It will focus mainly on Italian, Spanish, French, German and partially English prose. At the same time, the cycle is a small celebration of Czech translators of the 20th century. It is a relatively little-known fact that the Czech translations of the most important European literary works of the early modern period belong to the masterpieces of translation, to the absolute top of modern world translation. We will proceed chronologically, but taking into account certain contexts and genre connections.

Speaker: Miloš Sládek, Jean-Gaspard Páleníček.

Musical accompaniment: Ritornello ensemble (artistic director: Michael Pospíšil).

Free entry.
