About event
Icelandic musician and singer Emilíana Torrini will return to Bratislava after ten years with the new album Miss Flower. Along with older compositions, she and her band will present it on October 26, 2024 at Bratislava's Majestic Music Club.
Her composition Jungle Drum made people dance around the world, Gollum's Song from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers , she moved the audience with her lyrical arrangements. She picked up the club atmosphere while working in the electronic band GusGus, and transformed the intimacy and lyricism from her experience studying choral singing and classical music.
Her debut album Love in the Time of Science attracted attention also by the fact that it was produced by Roland Orzabal (Tears For Fears). On the next record Fisherman's Woman, triphop rhythms were reflected in a more folk expression. Emiliána has always been close to electronics thanks to her collaborations with Kid Koala, Paul Oakenfold and Thievery Corporation. The connection of electronics with acoustic instruments also occurred on the other two records Me and Armini; Tookah. The collaboration with the Belgian ensemble The Colorist Orchestra resulted in the live album The Colorist & Emiliana Torrini and the studio album Racing the Storm, which was released in 2023.
Emiliana Torrini announced the release of a new album Miss Flower in 2024, about which she revealed: “Miss Flower lived an adventurous life and took an unconventional approach to marriage. She had nine proposals but never married. Men were obsessed with her, and some letters are full of such confessions, some of which are very lustful, others are very funny. This recording is composed letter by letter, so the whole story is recorded in that correspondence. I was captivated by Miss Flower when I first met her and after her death when I started reading her letters and learning more about her interesting life. Each song is inspired by a different story or person we discovered there."
Icelander E. Torrini explains that the intention of Miss Flower was to make a pop electronic record with an intimate vocals, as in her favorite song I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen. The first published single Let's Keep Dancing combines dance arrangements with gentle singing and discusses the meeting of two lovers during the last dance.
The concert is part of the Danube Music Day series.
