The DARKNESS POSITIVE band has been inclined towards improvised music since its inception. This is evidenced by their very creation and why they came together. It was because of their desire to learn how to play Jazz that's why they started as a Quintet with two wind instruments and played jazz standards in their own arrangements. In this line-up, they managed to achieve enough success for them to record something 100% their own and thus managed to start a new era of their own band and work. This happened with their first single Party, which was created under the following circumstances. Back then, Darkness Positive Quintet was agreed to record a well-known song by Billy Cobham in their rehearsal room. They wanted to send the result as an application for the next Jazz Start Up competition, but at the last minute they changed their minds and three days before the recording, they decided to record their own composition, including vocals, when guitarist Šimon was just starting out with vocals. The brass section did not agree with this decision and therefore left.
The lonely trio of musicians Šimon Švidraň, Adrián Simonides and Matej Richtarčík did not give up on their idea and saw the idea through to the end. In three days of preparation, they put together the composition, arrangement and lyrics in English for the song Party, and they also got a person to shoot and edit the video for the song on the fourth day in their studio, even with the presence of extras. You can also see this work on their YouTube, as well as many others - created since then, including DIY videos for songs from their debut album "First impression", which they prepared until 2018 and released under the verified brand Slnko records. In 2015, they also managed to self-release a Live DVD/CD, for which the artwork was created by their good friend and artist Norbert Neuschl, with whom they collaborate on their visuals to this day. When one is currently fascinated by Anderson .Paak, the second returns to his youth with King Crimson and the third remains faithful to Lenny Kravitz's classics and has the most objective opinion of the three about the band's development or the current creative process. This model happily alternates with mutual understanding, and with teamwork, the trio always successfully reaches the goal.
During the creation of their second studio album " ? ", they came into contact with a young prodigy on the Slovak saxophone scene, a huge talent and soon a best friend, who goes by the name of Matej Novák. He appeared for the first time on the recording Sami sebo, the video single of the mentioned second album (2020) and soon also on other songs from this album. This is how the guys became a Quartet and played dozens of concerts, until another idea was born, how not to break away from the world of Jazz and still remain multi-genre.
In December '21, the instrumental album We Grew, for which they decided to go to a professional studio for the first time to "let themselves be served" (laughs) and thus gain more necessary experience for the future. This is how they basically returned to their roots, but with the the difference is that they are grown men who have matured in their game and done a lot of work.
