Ban and rediscovery of a classic
Banned in 1965, forgotten for decades - and today a classic of GDR literary and film history: The DEFA film "The Rabbit is Me" based on Manfred Bieler fell victim to the 11th plenum of the SED Central Committee in December 1965. The novel was published in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1969, but attracted little attention there. It was recently republished in the “Berlin Library” of Jaron Verlag. On the 60th anniversary of the “clear-cutting plenum” Dr. Stefan Wolle, leading actress Angelika Waller and publisher Arnt Cobbers about censorship, political breaks and personal experiences.
