"Das Krokodil" F. Dostojewski

With the story “The Crocodile”, which is the basis of our production, we attempt to introduce the cheerful Dostoyevsky. The crocodile draws its strength from the absurd initial situation of a man who is swallowed by a reptile and settles comfortably in the monster's belly. In this story, Dostoyevsky mocks the economic principle and capitalism, in which people are no longer valued apart from profit. He takes swipes at the quixotic Russian administration and the rigid social structures.

In the end, the story also turns out to be a satire on the madness of sprawling bureaucracy, which no longer seems to be able to cope with an increasingly complex world. A story could hardly be more current.
