About event
Entry is free, registration is not required.
In the winter of 1937, the Japanese invading army carried out the horrific Nanjing Massacre, in which over 300,000 innocent civilians and prisoners of war were murdered. This painful chapter is not only part of the collective memory of the Chinese people, but also a common historical wound of all humanity.
In that dark time, some international friends courageously stepped forward. German merchant John Rabe, chairman of the International Security Zone Committee, risked his life to protect tens of thousands of civilians and documented the brutal truth of the Nanjing Massacre with diaries and recordings. His selfless actions and testimonies became a significant symbol of human conscience and courage.
In order to deepen the international community's understanding of the historical facts of the Nanjing Massacre and convey the common idea of peace and development, the Chinese Cultural Center Berlin, in collaboration with the Memorial of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre by the Japanese Invading Army, is organizing the exhibition “World Memory and Vision of Peace - The Nanjing Massacre in the Eyes of John Rabe and other German contemporary witnesses”. Using historical documents, images and valuable exhibits, the experiences and actions of German contemporary witnesses in Nanjing are shown. The exhibition calls on people not to forget history and to preserve peace.
We cordially invite representatives from all sectors of society to the opening - let us preserve the memory of history together and carry on the vision of peace.
Preserve and carry on the vision of peace.
