Gardening is not about survival, but about creative enjoyment of life. It refers to ancient rural reflex, when we become the owners and creators of a piece of earth that demonstrates our taste, values and social status. It is an ideal compromise for those who live in the apartment between life in the city and in the countryside, when we enter our own 3D reality. Especially after many of us spend a working week sitting, tapping your fingers and looking in front of us at the flat monitor of the computer. It is not only a remnant of socialist internal emigration, but a living pan -European phenomenon with a rich tradition.
David Macháč has been dealing with this topic since 2006, when the community of gardeners mapped around his native Opava as part of his bachelor thesis on ITF in Opava. Subsequently, he expanded his shot to the whole Bohemia and selected locations from Poland, Slovakia, Germany and France. At this exhibition he presents a selection of photographs from 2017-2024, when last year the project was published for this project. Their personal universe, to which we were allowed to look. Suddenly, after viewing a few photographs, we realize that we are actually looking at the double sports, when the garden is a portrait of its owner. He who leaves the work, mortgage, news, unanswered compliments, swollen injustices and unheartwriting to become a modeler 1: 1. And this is magical in this unstable and unpredictable gardening world. In the form of periodic exhibitions, it materializes long -term research and archive activities of the virtual web magazine Parajs Photo Mag and expands the presentation opportunities of the International Photography Festival and Related Media Parajs Photo fest for a year -round program. In the founding year of 2025, the dramaturgy of the gallery focuses on the chamber exhibitions of Slovak and Czech photographers, the younger and middle generation, whose current work is characterized by a unifying theme mapping the ephemeral phenomenon of human connection and cultivated or wild nature. The joint theme of photographic exhibitions emphasizes ecological turnover in contemporary art, as one of the key social benefits and current photographs. The aim of both institutions is to build parajs - synergistic relations between established and uninterrupted culture and strengthen professional cooperation in the field of presentation and research of visual art in Slovakia.
