About event
Begur's Indians Festival is not only a celebration, but also a revival of one of the most fascinating chapters in the history of the Costa Brava. This annual party pays tribute to the intense relationship between Begur and Cuba during the 19th century. At that time, many Begurens, pushed by the yearning to improve their lives, set sail for Caribbean island to search for fortune.
Those who succeeded in their businesses returned to their native land turned into the popular "Americans". On arrival, they built sumptuous and ostentatious houses, known as "Indians", which today remain one of the architectural treasures of the village.
These "Americanos" brought with them not only their wealth, but also a lifestyle, a cultural legacy and a way of doing that left a deep imprint on the identity of Begur. September Week, Begur is transformed into a vibrant stage full of life. The streets and squares are filled with a colonial and festive atmosphere, where every detail is intended to transport you directly to that time.
And it is here, where culture and leisure, we dress white to enjoy this beautiful, special and historical party! So, if you want, you can come white to celebrate with us this unique festival full of life and where we can be "Indians" for a day! We will have free time to visit this party, with its overseas market and sample of trades, its shows or its cultural activities ...
