A program full of grand strings. Not only in the world famous the four seasons of Vivaldi, but also in works by Locatelli and Bartók, the musicians fully use their instruments.
In Locatelli's graceful Concerto Grosso in C, the musicians can shine in short solo passages. Vivaldi, just like contemporary Locatelli also a brilliant violinist, shows his mastery in the four seasons. Already in his time this widely beloved classical work was extremely popular. It brought a revolution into the musical imagination and evokes images of babbling streams, singing birds, a barking dog, buzzing flies, storms, drunken dancers, frozen landscapes and a cracking winter fire. In Divertimento, one of the large strings of the 20th century, Bartók mixes folk dancing with baroque elements. The airy, even swinging parts are a great contrast with the slow, chilling middle part, which therefore has even more depth.
