About event
The Puppet Debate dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution will take place in the ARCHA+ space on 18 November.
"Students of all faculties unite. On Saturday 14:00 at Letná!”
“I'm not Pinocchio! I'm just a Czech who was pulled by the nose for twenty years!”
“Students, you are guys, there are waiters with you!”
"For 40 years we were led by the side, now we want to go straight."
“Christmas comes, comrades go.”
These and many other slogans are chanted or carried by a crowd of demonstrating students.
Was November 17, 1989 the end of one party rule? How big a role did revolutionaries, dissidents, generational clashes or the Russian secret services play in it? What was the significance of the Velvet Revolution and how is it perceived today?
Debate for Puppets is a project and now a collective that was created on the premises of DAMU and which moved to a new cultural space in June to the dedicated young adults audience of ARCHA+. It is a debate project that is based on the secret identities of individual guests. They are interested in how much a person's communication is influenced by the awareness of the person they are talking to. Whether based on what he says, how he behaves, or maybe how he looks. Therefore, neither the audience nor the moderator of the debate know the identity of the guests, and this opens up space for discussion without prejudice and with greater openness.
Each guest gets his own "avatar" or alter ego - a puppet that will perform in his place that evening. The puppet, which is neutral, has no discernible character, allowing the viewer to form an opinion of the debater based solely on their thinking and attitudes. For this reason, the format is called Puppet Debate.
