About event

Ruptured uteri, full-term ectopic pregnancy or dead fetuses in the womb. These are just some of the obstetric disasters that Ondřej Šimetka, gynecologist and obstetrician, head of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic of the National Academy of Sciences in Ostrava, had to deal with on his missions. He was one of the first Czechs to go to East Timor with Médecins Sans Frontières in 1999, and later he was also at the birth of the Czech branch of our organization. He also supported us financially through unusual donation appeals, for example when he ran a marathon in New York with a torn muscle.

What did he have to deal with on his first mission as a doctor specializing in tropical medicine? What de facto non-existent cases did you have to deal with? Do midwives bother obstetricians? Is doula a dirty word for them? And how do healthcare workers in the Czech Republic deal with obstetric violence? Come and discuss with us what interests you.
