About event
HOW TO BUILD A SANE STATE IN A SANE TIME?
What can we as citizens do for the future of Slovakia and Central Europe
We live in a time when the certainties on which post-war Europe stood are shaking. Democracy faces the pressure of populism, misinformation and growing distrust of institutions. And behind the door – war. Many people get the feeling that only politicians and power elites decide the future.
Is it really so?
We invite you to an open discussion with Magdaléna Vášáryová and Jakub God about what the citizens themselves can do for the future of Slovakia. How to strengthen democracy, resilience of society and trust between people? What can we learn from developments in the Vyšehrad countries? And how to prevent Central Europe from becoming a space where fear, resignation and cynicism prevail?
Magda Vášaryová is a former actress, diplomat and politician. She is an expert on the geopolitical space of the Vyšehrad Four, she was the ambassador of the Czechoslovak Republic in Vienna (1990-1993) and the Slovak Republic in Warsaw (2000-2005).
Jakub Goda worked in the team of President Zuzana Čaputová, before that he led the online communication of the Ministry of Health during the pandemic. As a columnist and analyst dedicated to disinformation and social networks, he has infiltrated the Main News in the past to show how such a website works.
Come and listen to a discussion about how to build a healthy, functioning and free state even in times that are not very conducive to sanity.
The discussion is part of the regular cycle WEDNESDAY FOR DEMOCRACY: Debates on the matter, which is organized by OZ STREDA.info. Hosted by Peter Bestvina.
