About event
Sociëteit de Kring, Writing Academy Editio and Stichting Literaire Activities Amsterdam (SLAA) invite you for a special day: Saturday, September 20, 2025, the annual Debutantenbal takes place. A vibrant event for writers, readers and up -and -coming talent.
In the afternoon you can participate in various master classes and workshops. We also offer the opportunity to speed dating with people from the cultural world, such as publishers, literary agents, editors and program makers. Ask all your questions and network about it!
Meet other book lovers, whether they have just been debuted, already belong to the established order or are still at the start of their book trade career. At the same time you listen to the open mic, or put on the bad shoes to play your work. At the start of the evening it is time for the presentation of the Editio Debutantenprijs, after which the dance floor is officially opened. Time for a ball!

workshop: a professional look at your manuscript

Number of words: max 3,000 plus synopsis: appearance: Parents, friends and other acquaintances love it, but you are not convinced yourself. On September 20 during the Debutantenbal you can submit your manuscript plus a pressing question that you have submitted about your work to the professional editors of Editio.
Masterclass: How do you develop a character?
A novel without characters is difficult to imagine. As a writer you will therefore have to come up with, determine and develop your characters early in the writing process. Do you want to know more about how you can tackle this? Then come to this Masterclass from Marijke Schermer about the development of characters. What instruments do you have for this as a writer? What is a character and what makes a character suitable for hanging your story? Based on the Her most recent novel, in the eye, was nominated this year for the Libris Literature Prize. Her novel Love, too, if it was from 2019 was on the shortlist for the Libris Literature Prize. In addition to being a writer, she is also a prose teacher at the Schrijversvakschool.

Céline Schrama is the host of the open mic on the Debutantenbal
Schrama Vesting in the final of the Leiden Cabarival. Shortly thereafter she made her appearance at Comedy Club Haug, where she developed rapidly into a razor-sharp stand-up comedian. Her lightning -fast interactions and sharp humor soon conquered the hearts of a wide audience. With performances at iconic festivals such as Lowlands and presentation jobs for renowned companies, Céline has grown into a versatile entertainer that is at home on almost every stage.
