About event

The publisher Koloman Kertész Bagala regularly invites authors whose works have been published by his publishing house to literary discussions. One of the most outstanding Slovak authors of the middle generation, the six-time finalist of the Anasoft literary award Márius Kopcsay, will arrive for the next discussion with him. He reached its finals this year as well with his latest novel Dedo Lužko, which captures not only the fate of one family, but also the image of Slovak society through historical upheavals. The author worked on this book for almost eight years, and the result is a work that made it not only into the TOP 10 of Anasoft Litera, but also among the TOP 5 of the René – Anasoft Litera Gymnastist award.

Grandpa Lužko is a novel about the harmony and contrast of different worlds.

Grandpa Lužko is a man of the twentieth century, he lived in uniform all his life, all regimes. Karol, his grandson, grew up during normalization and early capitalism.

Dedoluško was forever young. Kajoluško has been old since childhood.

Dedoluško felt fulfilled and satisfied, although he lived in a world of unfreedom. Kajoluško lives freely, yet he experiences one frustration after another.

Dedoluško was a moral person, although he served an immoral system. Kajoluško longs for a fair society, but he commits mistakes himself.

How will it turn out? And where did the yellow bag go?

Márius Kopcsay debuted with a collection of short stories Critical Day (1998), which was loosely followed by Stratené roky (2004) and Zbytočný život (2006) - later published together in the exclusive book "33x Márius Kopcsay". After the short prose Veselé príhody z vacanzejní (2011), he wrote the novellas Medvedia skala (2009), Zdenuholník (2014) and the novels Home (2005, second edition 2023), Mystifikátor (2008), Asvabaždenie (2015), Stena (2018) and Dedo Lužko (2024).

"I don't know if I'm interesting enough to to be a literary character. However, I become an actor or a witness to situations that can be considered literary. These are mostly situations where I do not have sufficient influence on the development of events around me. Thus, I perceive myself as a powerless literary character." (Márius Kopcsay)
