About event

We cordially invite you to participate in a symposium devoted to the seventieth birthday of Vojtěch Lahody, which will take place on 21-22. 10. 2025 in Prague. PhDr. Vojtěch Lahoda, CSc. (30. 1955–18. 3. 2019) He was an internationally recognized art historian who specialized in the history of Czech modernism and avant -garde in the European context, and his research often interfered with the second half of the 20th century. He is the author of many canonical review studies and monographs of artists. Since 1980 he has been a tribal employee, later director (1993–2001, 2012–2017) of the Institute of Art History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. In addition to professional activities, he has devoted himself to university teaching since the 1990s. From 2000 until his death he worked at the Institute for the History of the Arts of the Faculty of Arts, where he taught the history of modern art. He was a teacher with an extraordinary ability to inspire his students - not only his lectures, but also a widely visited and thematically rich seminars and excursions. Lahoda's intellectual creativity and inspirational guidance have influenced many of his pupils who now work in the field of art history and in related disciplines. The aim of the meeting is to reflect and develop the principles that Lahoda promoted in its work and continues to develop its pupils and pupils. It is to point out the corners of art or ties that have until recently left in seclusion, on the edges of interest, or without connection with the so -called high art. This was also a frequent subject of delicious school work.
