Democracy, the government of the people?

Democracy was originally not only a political system, but also a moral matter.
But what does that mean? What is democracy at all? What does it mean to be born into a state with a democratic form of government?

Are we born with any responsibility? For ourselves, for the family, for the company we live in?
Are the decisions made democratically (majority vote) always justifiable?
Is the modern world so complex that universal participation in decision -making ceases to be functional? Is it right to decide on things we do not understand - about economic crises, geopolitical conflicts, climate change? About who has the right to marriage? Or is this human ignorance a natural part of democracy that is not only based on knowledge, but also on emotions, intuition and personal values?
What does democracy threaten most? Indifference? Disinformation? Or perhaps too much complexity of the world?
Can democracy work at all when key spheres - corporations, media, social network algorithms - control only a handful of people?
Would the government of experts - technocracy - be a better option?
And what about anarchy?
And we still live in democracy?!
