Russia in 2027.
The re-established rule of the Tsar and his personal police called Oprichnina.
A country isolated from the rest of the world on its way back to the past and barbarism.
16th century language and thought combined with modern technologies and Russian nationalism.
Oprichniki in red Mercedes and metal coats.
Metal on stage, Sorokin's sarcasm and Slavic rap.
What happens to those who, for the sake of the idea of their own exceptionalism, voluntarily give up their freedom and allow themselves to be raped by the powerful?
Vladimir Sorokin vroku In 2006, he wrote his dystopian vision of the future of Russia. It is depicted through the narration of a rank-and-file member of the reborn Oprichnina, Andrej Danilović Komjaga, who lives an ordinary day that is dangerously close to the present.

1565. 2006. 2023. 2027. Doesn't matter? Day after day. Anyone who disagrees is kicked out.

In 1565, Tsar Ivan IV. Hrozný chose a thousand guards - oprichniks - for his personal protection. Their task was to fight against the power efforts of the boyar-princely aristocracy, to maintain the absolutist power of the monarch and, above all, to eliminate all "traitors", that is, enemies of Ivan the Terrible. Basically, they had the function of secret police - they searched for enemies, interrogated them, tortured and executed them.
