Activities that will await you
TOPIC 1 – SOIL ANALYSIS
Soil biodiversity – the hidden world under our feet
On the occasion of Earth Day, children will embark on a journey of discovery into the fascinating world of soil and its diversity. The program focuses on biodiversity in different types of soils - from intensively used agricultural soils and vineyards with frequent use of chemical sprays, through fertile soils rich in life, to dry sandy soils.
Under the guidance of experts from botany, zoology, paleontology and mineralogy, children will explore the "microenvironments" that lie beneath the surface. They will discover what animals, microorganisms or minerals are found in individual types of soil, and how environmental conditions affect their occurrence and diversity. The soil also contains various parts of plants, most often in the form of seeds, fruits, bulbs, tubers and roots. One of the tasks will be to find traces of the plant kingdom in the soil samples and examine them under a binocular magnifying glass.
In an interactive and experiential way, the children themselves will create an idea of what makes the soil healthy and suitable for life. The program supports environmental thinking, critical thinking and leads to awareness of the importance of soil protection as one of the most valuable natural resources.
TOPIC 2 – DEVÍNSKA KOBYLA
Protected animals of Devínská Kobyla
Intriguing information about the protected animals of Devínská Kobyla and Sandberg with examples of various preparations of vertebrates and invertebrates.
Devínska Kobyla through the eyes of paleontologists
Experience program for children and school youth about the importance of paleontological sites in the protected area of Devínská Kobyla and the importance of their protection. Children will find out which fossils from Devínská Kobyla are protected by law and why it is important not to take them home as souvenirs. In the form of interactive tasks, they will try the work of paleontologists and understand how we can protect our natural heritage together. The goal is to instill in them respect for the precious traces of the past that are right under our feet.
