We all talked about it, read about it, watched the events. Then the holidays came and we kind of forgot about it. But they don't. Every day they look for new news, read testimonies of prisoners, ask what the future will bring. They celebrate and they fear. They plan, they hope. When there was war, and brutal totalitarianism before it, many of them were there. They have experienced things we cannot imagine.
They are neither journalists nor experts on geopolitics. In Syria, they don't just have a head, they also have a heart. How do Syrians living in Brno perceive the current situation in their country? What brought them here, how do they feel, and how do they think about returning to Syria? What are their fears and what do they wish for the future of their country?
Syrians of various faiths and stories live in Brno - Christians, Sunnis, Shiites and Alevis. What unites them and how do they cope with their differences? In the public space, we often hear debates about the fall of Bashar Al-Assad's regime, but the voices of those who experienced it firsthand are missing. We invite you to a moderated discussion with representatives of the Brno Syrians, which creates a space for meetings between Czech and Syrian Brno residents.
