We invite you to the opening ceremony of Denisa Slavkovská's exhibition entitled Midnight Correspondence, which will take place on Wednesday 18.12. at 18.00 at GJK, Synagogue - Contemporary Art Center at Halenárská 2 in Trnava. 🌑✉
The Midnight Correspondence exhibition by Denisa Slavkovská invites visitors on a fascinating journey into the world of mysterious and extraordinary rooms, where ordinary objects and seemingly familiar spaces are transformed into a form full of absurdity and surrealism. The author creates an environment in which everyday objects - such as light bulbs, tables or chairs - lose their familiar function and become part of a dream world in which they lose their firm place in reality. Rooms that usually appear as a comfortable and familiar refuge are transformed in her paintings into strange labyrinths in which logic and time lose their ordinary meaning. 😮
In this way, Denisa captures the atmosphere that reigns just before dawn - the time when the night is at its peak and our thoughts are full of unrestrained creativity, when our visions, ideas and ambitions are unprecedentedly bold and the boundaries between the possible and the impossible are erased. However, this intense state full of dreams of greatness and unlimited possibilities loses its intensity with the arrival of morning light. With the dawn, our thoughts calm down, and the ideas that seemed revolutionary to us at night suddenly seem simpler and more real, sometimes even more modest. The exhibition therefore not only evokes a mysterious, surreal world, but also provides reflection on how our visions and ambitions are subject to the constant variability of time and the world around us.
The exhibition is complemented by a sound and light installation, which is the result of the collaboration music producers Epoché and Whyami_op, who collaborated on the sound component of the project. Their ambient compositions full of subtle nuances and rhythmic surfaces enhance visual impressions and add a new dimension to the exhibition. Lighting designer Filip Dvořák took care of connecting music and light, who created a dynamic symbiosis of these two elements with an innovative approach and offered the viewer a unique multisensory experience.
Together, everyone created an atmosphere in which every detail becomes part of a larger, complex story, in which dark and light moments meet and where reality gives way to fantasy.
Denisa Slavkovská (*1994) is a prominent figure in contemporary Slovak painting, who in 2020 completed her master's degree at the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava, where she specialized in painting. Her academic journey is rich in experience - she completed, for example, a one-year internship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow at the Department of Graphics, went through the intermediate studio at VŠVU and expanded her skills in animation at the Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín.
