About event
The Berlin vocal ensemble Acanto presents sacred choral music from four centuries in its program DER TÖNE LICHT. To combat the uncertainty and crises of our time, we rely on the power of music. In addition to compositions by Johann Hermann Schein, Isabella Leonarda and Johannes Brahms, Hugo Wolf's song "Im Silenten Friedhof" will also be heard.
Against the background of the 80th anniversary of the end of the war, Rudolf Mauersberger's mourning motet "How lies the city so wüst" is the highlight of our concert. Premiere by Mauersberger himself in May 1945 in the ruins of the burned-out Dresden Kreuzkirche, this piece is an impressive warning against war, destruction and violence. This message to the world is more urgent today than it has been for a long time.
The concert is sponsored by the Berlin Choir Association.
