Descubre el Rec Comtal: el camino del agua hacia Barcelona y Ciudad Meridiana

HIKING AND HISTORY ROUTE!

The **mythical Rec Comtal**, the irrigation canal that has carried water to Barcelona since Roman times, has a hidden and little-known point of origin near Montcada i Reixac.**

Between the last **cultivated fields of Barcelona** (finca la Ponderosa) and the Vallbona neighborhood, the furthest from the city center, there are hidden some green corners where the **acequia still runs outdoors full of fresh, clean water.**

We therefore propose a guided route in which we will travel through the initial and best preserved section of the Rec Comtal, to get to know this natural redoubt of Barcelona and its history. We will also pass through the neighborhoods of Vallbona and Ciutat Meridiana, places that, as the writer Paco Candel said, form those areas where the city changes its name.

As always, all our routes **have explanations from a guide with a degree in History from the UB**. This is ours

**PLAN:**

1. Meeting at the Ciutat Meridiana Metro exit (L11). Remember that to connect with L11 you have to reach Trinitat Nova with L3 or L4. Calculate your travel time well to be punctual.
2. We begin the route through the streets of Ciutat Meridiana and Vallbona, the neighborhoods furthest from the center of Barcelona.
3. We continue the walk along the path parallel to the Rec Comtal, near the Besós River, the river park and the Ponderosa orchards.
4. Exterior visit of the Casa de les Aigües and the Reixagó, the birthplace of the Rec Comtal. Historical explanations.
5. We ended up in the old town of Montcada i Reixac, talking about its modernist and summer past.
6. Return by Rodalies to Barcelona
