Día de los Muertos: Let's Build an Ofrenda
It's more than Halloween! A celebration that celebrates our memories, spirits, families, thoughts, reflections, memories and togetherness.
Día de los Muertos is a Mexican living and intangible cultural heritage. The Festival of the Dead is one of the most important and largest folk festivals in Mexico, where pre-Columbian and colonial ideas mix. According to old tradition, the deceased return on this day to celebrate a happy and contemplative reunion with the living. Inspired by this tradition, we build an altar (ofrenda) together, share stories, songs, colors, scents, delicacies and memories. It is a celebration that connects us - with our deceased and with each other, here and now.
The Theater Expedition Metropolis invites everyone to celebrate Día de los Muertos together this year on the grounds of the Old Disinfection Facility. It is open to everyone who would like to be inspired by this special atmosphere - regardless of origin, culture, worldview or identity.
On November 1st from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. we are preparing the festival for Sunday. We build an ofrenda, an altar, prepare delicacies for the next day, plan the process.
Everyone ages 7 and up can join in. Pre-registration at: [email protected]
The Día de los Muertos 2025 at the Theater Expedition Metropolis is an initiative by the artists Julieta Figueroa, Gabriela Ortiz & Margherita Vestri.
