The Hofburg was the residence of the Habsburg family for 600 years. The building complex was continued to be built by emperors over many centuries.
The winter residence of the Habsburgs had been the residence of the Habsburgs since the 13th century. The building complex served as the residence of emperors and rulers until the end of the monarchy in 1918.
Today there are also several world-famous museums and the National Library, but also other institutions in the Hofburg.
