About event
TIEN, in collaboration with Renaissance consort de Vrijstad, presents a program with early music led by Matthijs Overmars. A mix of instrumental and vocal music, with works by Josquin, Lassus, Gesualdo, Schütz, Weelkes and Monteverdi, among others. The title of the program refers to the confidence that misery and suffering can lead to growth and realization of ideals and happiness, that renunciation can be accompanied by hope, courage, perseverance, the strength to persevere and take suffering for granted. what it is. The road is tough, but it is worth it.
In this program both sides are discussed: the suffering, the tears, the despair, the sadness, which often lead to the most intense and rich forms of expression in music (such as in Weelkes' When David heard). And in addition, the liberation, the joy, the joy and the beauty that are sung jubilantly, or made to sound even more festive with instruments (Monteverdi's Jubilate Deo). Music is the stylization of the strongest and most contradictory human feelings and emotions, where the vocal and the instrumental sometimes intertwine in this program, sometimes bringing contrasts, but always making a solution audible from the deepest pain and misery, and as such already offer hope and comfort.
