About event

Berlin swimming pools will remain cold in the future, shelters for women and refugees are about to close, and many advice and support services are worried about their future. Youth social work, education as well as cultural and sports offerings – wherever you look, the chainsaw is being used. From Argentina to the USA to Germany, workers' rights are being attacked and social infrastructures are being cut down without regard to losses. These attacks are absorbed by parents who continue to toil at their second job after work, daughters who move back home to care, or friends and neighbors who stumble themselves but step in when all else fails. The crisis of public services is an attack on our collective (survival) living conditions.

In view of the destructive alliance of authoritarian neoliberalism and right-wing nationalism, we need an anti-fascism that is not satisfied with defending the existing situation, but fights offensively for a better life for everyone! It has to start in everyday life, where the crises become concretely noticeable. Based on experiences in Argentina, Colombia, Spain, Chile and Mexico, we are looking for left-wing policies for a solidarity-based (survival) life.

Panel 1: A better life is possible! Care centers in Colombia, Mexico and Chile (5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.)
Feminist movements from Latin America show what is possible: They create places where people's needs are the focus. Under the heading “Caring for those who care for us” they bundle different offers related to care work under one roof: from massages for caring relatives and swimming pools in the most precarious districts of Mexico City, to counseling services for migrants and trans* people in Santiago de Chile, to educational formats such as “Man can learn to worry” in Bogotá. Activists from Colombia, Mexico and Chile present their projects and discuss how they can be further developed and disseminated.

Panel 2: Organizing feminist change. Fights for public services for a strong left (7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.)
Argentina may be the motherland of authoritarian neoliberalism under Milei - but it is also a role model for feminist mobilization. The Ciudad Futura movement party is fighting for better living conditions in participatory formats in one of the poorest and most violent parts of the country - and in doing so is convincing people in local elections who voted for Milei at the national level. In the Spanish state, it was movement parties and electoral platforms such as Barcelona en comu that took action against patriarchal gender relations with local political programs for the socialization of care work. And in Germany, Deutsche Wohnen and co. Expropriating masses enthusiastic about the once taboo topic of socialization. Building on these experiences, the Berlin initiative Sorge ins Parkcenter is campaigning to use vacant commercial properties for local care infrastructure. From these perspectives, we discuss what left-wing organizing that addresses everyday life can look practical and contribute to long-term shifts in the balance of power.
