About event
In today's Berlin cityscape, there are only a few places where above-ground relics of the GDR border fortifications remain. In his two-volume work "The Berlin Wall (1961–1989): GDR border fortifications and escape tunnels as reflected in archaeological documentation and their monument value", the author summarizes the results of the archaeological research and combines them with already known historical sources in images, writing and sound. The archaeological research results and numerous material remains complete the still incomplete historical picture of the border system, the underground escape routes and the countermeasures to prevent escape by the state security and the GDR border troops.
At this book launch, the author discusses with various guests what the last relics of the GDR border fortifications still tell us today about control, escape and life at the Berlin Wall can.
