"The Wehrmacht uniform, guilt and the end of childhood" - reading & conversation with Maike Albath & Stephan Krass

In "The Hour of the Seahorse" (Elsinor, 2024), the writer Stephan Krass, based on his youth in the post-war period, creates a scenario from a family novel, memoir and generational portrait in poetic snapshots - including all the wounds and scars that National Socialism left behind.

Alternating between reading and conversation with Maike Albath, Stephan Krass will present his book "The Hour of the Seahorse" that evening and - 80 years after the end of the Second World War - remember an important chapter in West German post-war history.

Stephan Krass, Dr. phil., born in 1951, was a literary editor at Südwestrundfunk in Baden-Baden. He also taught as an honorary professor at the University of Design in Karlsruhe and at the Institute for Literary Writing and Literary Studies at the University of Hildesheim. In addition to several volumes of poetry and non-fiction books, he also wrote numerous radio plays and a play. In 2007 he was awarded the Radio Play Prize of the Berlin Academy of the Arts.

Maike Albath, Dr. phil., born in 1966, studied German and Romance languages ​​in Berlin and Padua. She works as a journalist at Deutschlandfunk and as a literary critic at the Süddeutsche Zeitung. Her last book “Bitteres Blau” was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in the non-fiction category. In 2022, Maike Albath was elected a member of the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature.
