Come to celebrate the last concert of the year at Schlot.
This Great Quintet wishes to convey with their music, positive and energetic feelings and bring everybody to a wonderful New Year!!
Five veterans of the Berlin Jazz scene will join again for a very special reunion, presenting a swinging and well-balanced blend of famous Songs from the Jazz Songbook with a Latin touch and a few originals.
The warm sound of saxophonist Dirk Engelhardt, refined pianist Tino Derado, creative vibraphonist Franz Bauer, strong bassist Robin Draganic, and dynamic international drummer/composer Andrea Marcelli.
The main characteristic of this very special Berlin based Quintet, is the unexpected dynamics and the intuitive dialog between the four musicians.
They performed together in countless different situations, including a tour with Frank Gambale.
Expect Contemporary, Latin and Hard Bop Jazz and a lot of swing!!

Dirk Engelhardt ist ein expressiver, zugleich lyrischer Saxophonist,
der sowohl im Geiste der Jazz-Avantgarde der 70er Jahre als auch in
der Hard Bop Tradition musiziert, ohne dabei die europäischen
Traditionen außer Acht zu lassen.
Mit seinen Projekten spielte er auf Festivals wie den Donaueschinger
Musiktagen, dem Berliner Jazzfest, Nancy Jazz Pulsations (F), Jazz Nad
Odra, Poznan Jazzfair, Pori (FI), Fetya (Ruanda/Ostafrika),
Tanja-Jazzfestival Tanger (Marokko), Presov/Martin (SK), Viersen,
Baden-Baden, Hannover u.v.a.
Dirk Engelhardt spielte mit Musikern wie Albert Mangelsdorff, Karl
Berger, Uli Beckerhoff, Till Brönner, Ed Schuller, Larry Porter; mit
dem langjährigen Komponisten der Wim Wenders Filme Jürgen Knieper und
mit Marianne Rosenberg in ihrem derzeitigen Jazz- und Chanson Projekt
"I'm A Woman"; während eines dreijährigen Aufenthaltes in Paris mit
Michel Graillier, Rene Urtreger, Jean-Francois Jenny Clark, Oliver
Johnson, Lionel Belmondo und diversen nord-, west- und
ostafrikanischen Musikern.

TINO DERADO, pianist/composer, a graduate (BFA) of Berklee College of Music (Boston) and the New School (New York) Tino Derado , who studied on a Eubie Blake Scholarship. In reflection of his mixed cultural heritage (Croatian/ German), he soon developed a dynamic interest in ethnic and world music.
Tino performed with Gary Burton, Peter Erskine, Randy Brecker, Bill Evans, Paul Winter, Dave Liebman, Frank Gambale, Avishy Cohen, Craig Handy, Billy Drewes, Matthew Garrison, Rebekka Bakken, Nils Langren, Papo Vasquez, Andy Gonzales and Bob Moses among others.
Derado has lived 12 years in New York and has moved back to Berlin/Germany. He is frequently working with the NDR Bigband and teaching at the JIB University (Berlin). In 2014 he was appointed to be Professor at the Musikhochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover.

FRANZ BAUER ist ein Musiker, der ausgedehnte Reisen in sehr unterschiedlichen musikalischen Gefilden unternahm.
Parallel zu seinen 2 Hochschulausbildungen (Hochschule für Musik München, Klassik, und Universität der Künste Berlin, Jazz) und der dort entstandenen Projekte durchschreitet er ständig neue Bereiche indem er immer wieder an Projekten auf unterschiedlichen Terrains teilnimmt- sie selbst ins Leben ruft.
Franz Bauer lebt seit 1992 in Berlin. Er arbeitet als freischaffender Musiker und unterrichtet an den Musikschulen Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg und Paul-Hindemith Neukölln, wo er u.a. als Co-Leiter der Studienvorbereitung Jazz tätig ist.

Drummer/composer ANDREA MARCELLI moved to the USA in 1989,
spending eight years in Los Angeles and four in New York City.
He has resided in Berlin since 2001. Over 200 of his compositions
have been recorded. Two of his tunes are included in both
“The European Real Book“ and “The Digital Real Book part 2“.
He is leading a very active international musical life, performing in
five continents.
He collaborate with Wayne Shorter, Don Menza, Dave Liebman, Allan Holdsworth, Mike Stern, Bob Mintzer, Eddie Gomez, Markus Stockhausen, Ekkehard Wölk, Ralph Towner, Eberhard Weber, Palle Danielsson, John Patitucci, Alex von Schlippenbach, Hiram Bullock, Frank Gambale and
for over 20 years with many local musicians from the Berlin jazz scene.
He recorded many albums and two critically acclaimed Cds with legendary Major Label Verve/PolyGram.

ROBIN DRAGANIC bassist, born in 1963 in Zagreb raised in Canada and studied at University in Montreal where he had his first band with Ken Vandermark in 1984.
He also played in Usa, Russia, China and all over Europe.
Since 1988 he is one of the most requested bassists in Berlin. Since November 1997 Robin Draganic has been leading the best known Jam Session in Berlin "Robin's Nest" at the 'B-Flat Jazz Club' every Wednesday evening.
Since 2003 he played over 500 concerts with the Quartet of singer Lyambiko,
with Marque Lowenthal, one of the most known Jazz bands in Germany
and recorded for Sony BMG.
