About event

What will we talk about?

Resistance against the green transformation can often be heard in our country as well. One of the reasons is that the green transformation has redistributive effects and threatens to lead to the concentration of wealth on the one hand and to the concentration of poverty on the other. In recent years, poverty in Slovakia has grown rapidly: today there are 943,000 people at risk of poverty living among us. And the wealth of the richest Slovaks also grew: 45 of them own assets of almost 19 billion euros. If the financial possibilities of the state are limited, the question arises, who will pay the costs of the green transformation? We should not demand sufficient financial participation in its costs from those who pollute the environment the most in their way of life, i.e. from the richest?

How the richest can be taxed, what resources it would mean for the EU, what the European Parliament can do in this area, our guests will also talk about this:

Branislav ONDRUŠ, MEP for the HLAS-SD party
Richard FILČÁK, head of the SAS Prognostic Institute

Moderation:
Brigita SCHMÖGNEROVÁ, Proforum, former Minister of Finance of the Slovak Republic, vice-president of the Bank for Reconstruction and Development and general secretary of the UN Economic Commission

Organizers:
OZ Proforum, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, representation in Slovakia, Foundation for European Studies
