We invite you to the launch of the book from the Absynt publishing house How to raise a Nazi by Gregor Ziemer, which is an important testimony about Nazi pedagogy and the influence of ideology on youth.
📚 The launch of a new translation of the book from 1941 will be connected with a discussion with historian Marína Zavacka, who is devoted to the history of propaganda and the wider context of building regime loyalties in the 20th century.
The discussion will focus on the relevance and reasons for reading this book even after eighty years. It provides insight into the mechanisms by which the regime subjugated children and the young generation using the education system 👩🏫, and how it creepily and cunningly infiltrated schools, families, associations and public discourse.
Today, more than eighty years after its publication, it remains disturbingly relevant. Many of the mechanisms that Ziemer describes resonate again in various forms in the contemporary world. We live in times when voices are once again calling for "harder order", "discipline" or "national pride".
⚠️We are once again facing manifestations of authoritarian populism, polarization of society and a targeted attack on the autonomy of education. There are still political forces that work purposefully with fear, look for the enemy, highlight "order" over freedom and attack critical thinking as a subversive element.
